Amsterdam

We went to Amsterdam!

Our plans had to be changed slightly so we did not get to see everything we wanted to, but we will go back soon. We were going to spend two full days and one night in Amsterdam. We had to delay our departure so we did not get to town until later in the evening, and ended up spending less than 24 hours there. Initially, we had tickets to the Anne Frank house but were not able to make it. Our next trip will be full of museum visits! We walked past the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum and it made me very excited for next time!

When we arrived, we ate dinner with some friends and made our way to the sex museum! It was interesting and very graphic!!

After the sex museum, we ventured over to the red light district. It wasn’t quite what any of us were expecting. As we were walking around we slowly started seeing some red lit windows scattered between bars. Then we found the strip that seemed to be the main attraction. On both sides of the canal there were a ton of bars, strip clubs, and red lit windows with all types of girls. The unexpected part was how bored the women looked. Most of them were playing on their phones while sitting on stools looking unenthused. We did see a few men inquiring about prices, and a handful pulling the curtains closed. We got very excited for them!!

We could not, for obvious reasons, take any pictures of the red light windows, but it was a neat to see. There were women of all different ethnicities, body types, hair colors, etc. Most were clothed in lingerie, with varied levels of exposure. We did not see any nudity from the women in the windows.

After we had enough of the red light district, we went on an adventure to an ice bar. John and I had never been to one, and it was awesome!! It was soooo cold. It was -9.4 celcius. With our entrance we got one drink in the regular bar area, and two drinks in the ice bar. In the ice bar we had to put on big winter coats and gloves and the drinks were served in ice cups!

Our hotel was in an awesome location, it was easy to walk everywhere we needed to go. It was right across the canal from the heineken brewery. We intended to go take a tour, but it closed earlier than we thought and we did not want to go prior to driving on Saturday. We will add it to our to-do list!

The next morning, we got some dutch pancakes. I did not know what to expect, but they were similar in texture to a crepe.
John got bacon and cheese…

…and I got ham and cheese.

They were really good!! And I got a stroopwafel with my coffee.

We walked around the outdoor mall area for the rest of the morning, and started our drive home early in the afternoon. Luckily for us, it’s a short 3.5 hour drive for us to Amsterdam!! We will be back soon.
